Who is Molly and what is Guillain-Barré syndrome?

Molly Row is a San Diego-based photographer + bartender at Pueblo restaurant in Pacific Beach.

Molly’s life has always been centered around three things: Her love for photography, her deep connection with plants and spreading the vibes wherever she goes.

Molly, 32, and her husband Dylan Edwards, a Boatswain Mate 2nd Class in the U.S. Coast Guard, are experiencing one of the most challenging experiences of their lives and they could use our help.

On Thursday, Feb. 2, Molly started noticing tingling sensations on her hands and feet while Dylan, 31, was standing duty on base. As the days passed, Molly’s pain worsened into pins and needles. By the time Dylan returned home from work on Friday, Molly was starting to lose her ability to walk on her own.

Dylan and their friend Maddie carried her into a car and straight to the ER.

Mere days later, Molly’s condition worsened even more: She couldn’t move her arms or legs and she couldn’t speak. At that time, she was rushed to the ICU and intubated, being placed on life support, the following Monday. Not long after she lost facial and body control, except for slight eye movements and a wince of her eyelids.

Doctors later gave her a tracheostomy as they diagnosed her with Guillain-Barré syndrome.

Guillain-Barré syndrome is a rare neurological disorder, which occurs when the body’s immune system attacks its own nerves. The cause for the disorder is still unknown.

As of March 14, Molly is still unable to breathe on her own and has very restricted and limited movement. Doctors are hopeful that they will be able to wean her off the vent soon, but the road to recovery and rehabilitation is a long one.

Dylan, who is on leave, has been staying with Molly at the hospital every day since she was admitted.

Their medical bills are racking up as we speak, and they need our support now more than ever.
